MT. VERNON, Iowa - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team earned their first win of the season, taking down Cornell College 6-4 on the road Friday afternoon.

Benedictine did not trail in the game. Becca Gullett opened the scoring with 26:51 to play in the first half. Cornell, a first year program, evened the score with 18:52 left. Benedictine scored three straight goals all just five minutes apart to open a 4-1 advantage. Gabby Rowe started the run. The Eagles held a 4-2 lead at the half.

Cornell finished scoring three in a row with 19:14 left in the game, tying the contest at 4-4. Benedictine took the lead for the final time with 9:10 remaining on another finder from Gullett. Link accounted for the final tally in the closing minute of the game.

Hannah Smith recorded nine saves in goal. Benedictine held a slim 13-12 advantage in groundballs. Cornell outshot Benedictine 22-16 overall. Gullett led the way with three goals, three groundballs, and three draw controls. Link scored twice on three attempts.

Benedictine (1-9, 1-2 MWLC) will not play again until an April 12 game with Augsburg at 11:00 a.m.
