Mike Irgang to take an early lead. The hosts extended the margin to 3-0 with a single run in the third. Irgang limited the damage and went on to work eight innings. The senior allowed just two earned runs on 10 hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
A rapid fire attack quickly handed Benedictine the lead in the top of the sixth.

Benedictine was slated to face Concordia Chicago, who shared the NACC regular season crown and own the last two tournament titles, at 7:00 p.m. with the winner reaching the conference title game and needing to lose twice not to win the title. The conference tournament winner automatically reaches the NCAA Tournament. The game was postponed until Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. due to impending weather.
With a win in the opener on Saturday, Benedictine (19-22) would reach the conference title game for the first time in NACC history.
