The Benedictine Universtiy women's volleyball team opened up the 2015 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference slate on Tuesday, defeating Alverno College in straight sets.
The Eagles (5-4, 1-0 NACC) led in every set, including the final set where they tallied 14 kills en route to a 25-14 win.
Keriann Groen led all players with seven kills while
Ashley Karsten registered a match high six kills.
Kara Epping had five kills and
Kelcey Adams tallied 29 assists.
Kristina Billie led the defense with 15 digs and three assists.
Alverno (2-7, 0-1 NACC) took an early lead in the first set, 10-6, but kills from Karsten and
Emily Chitwood put BenU back on top and they sailed to a 25-21 win. Benedictine took the lead in the second set while tallying 12 kills for s 25-18 win.
As a team, BenU had 35 kills, 42 digs and nine aces.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, September 18 when they host the annual Red and Black Triangular, taking on Lake Forest College and North Central College.
