RIVER FOREST, Ill. - After trailing 2-0 to the 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champions Dominican University, the Benedictine University women's volleyball team battled to force a fifth set. The Eagles recorded a season high 52 kills but it wasn't enough as they were edged in five sets to the reigning champs.

THE DETAILS• The first set saw Benedictine take an early 8-4 lead but the Stars took advantage of several BenU hitting errors to tie it at 25. Dominican would win 27-25 on back-to-back kills.
• Both teams traded points in the second set but DU pulled ahead and the Eagles could not regain the lead, falling 25-21.
• Benedictine recorded 13 kills and just four errors in the third set to help them to a 25-23 win. With the set tied at 22, BenU would go on a 5-1 run with kills from
Beckie Whitmarsh and
Erin Wiegand.
• The fourth set saw the Eagles tally 15 kills and hit a .243 to hand Dominican a 25-17 loss. After trailing early, Benedictine rallied to tie it at 12. The Eagles took the lead on
Keriann Groen and
Kelcey Adams kills and never looked back.
• With the match on the line, both teams battled to the end in the fifth set. Benedictine trailed 4-1 but tied the set at 10. The Stars would score the next five of six points to win the match.
• The match saw 49 ties and 27 lead changes.
FROM THE COACH"I'm really proud of how we played and competed tonight," said head coach
Jennifer Wildes. "The entire team had a great two days of practice and we were very consistent throughout the match. Hopefully we use tonight to make us better and take a step forward."
STAT LEADERS• Whitmarsh led all players with 14 kills
• Groen tallied 12 kills and just three errors with four block assists
• Rounding out the top offensive players was Wiegand with 10 kills
• Defensively,
Kristina Billie had 23 digs and Adams with 21 digs. Adams also had 43 assists.

Vanessa Possidoni had four aces, eight digs while
Caitlyn Martin recorded 13 digs and two aces
• As a team BenU had 52 kills, 84 digs and seven blocks
