Seventh-Ranked Men's Hoops Improves to 12-0

MEQUON, Wis. - The seventh-ranked Benedictine University men's basketball team improved to 12-0 by overcoming a slow start to upend the NACC preseason favorite Concordia University Wisconsin by an 83-70 score on the road Saturday afternoon.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine struggled out of the box, turning the ball over on three consecutive early possessions, falling behind 5-0
• Tahron Harvey scored the first points for Benedictine with a basket at the 17:40 mark
• Concordia Wisconsin held a 9-2 lead just over three minutes into the game
• The lead swelled to 20-9 with 11:31 left in the first half and Concordia Wisconsin held a 25-13 edge with 7:44 to play in the half
• Matt Chaltin opened an 18-5 run with a layup as Benedictine stormed to a 30-29 lead on a Luke Johnson layup to jump ahead for the first time with 3:56 remaining
• Michael Blaszczyk drained a three-pointer to push the lead to five points at 36-31 with 2:49 to play in the first
• Benedictine led 45-36 at the break, scoring the final five points
• Four consecutive points to open the second pushed the lead to 49-36
• Concordia Wisconsin pulled no closer than nine the rest of the game and the lead stretched to 19 in the final two minutes
• Benedictine saw the 2014-15 season end at the hands of Concordia Wisconsin at home in the NACC Tournament
• Concordia Wisconsin was predicted to win the NACC in the preseason poll

"We got off to a tough start but we held out composure and played well to end the first half, seizing momentum," head coach Keith Bunkenburg said. "The result turned out to be a great win on the road and I am very proud of the team. We just need to be more focused at the start and cut back on our turnovers."

Johnson did not start, but tallied a career best 24 points off the bench and added 14 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season
• 19 of the points for Johnson came in the first half
• Johnson, who also added five blocks, is the top rebounder in the conference and Benedictine, one of the top rebounding teams in the nation, held a 49-29 edge on the glass
• Three other players reached double figures with Adam Reynolds notching 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting
• Harvey added 12 points while John Dodson contributed 11
• Benedictine finished the game shooting 56.9 percent, a season high
• Benedictine shot 65 percent in the second hald and scored 54 points in the paint

Benedictine (12-0, 7-0 NACC) leads the conference by two games in the loss column and will look to continue the best start in recent school history and longest win streak in recent history with a contest at home on Wednesday night against Dominican (1-8, 0-5 NACC)
