Men's Volleyball Splits at Loras Invite

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Benedictine University men's volleyball team traveled to Dubuque, Iowa to compete in the 2016 Loras Invitational. The Eagles defeated Trinity Christian College in straight sets in the first match of the day, but fell in five sets to Lakeland College.

Benedictine 3, Trinity Christian 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19)

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles tallied 16 kills in the first set while holding Trinity Christian to just eight kills with five errors. The match was tied at 14 but the Ealges pulled away on kills from Kyle VanStedum and Jake Moran to win 25-20.
• The second set saw the Eagles hit an impresive .273, gaining a lead early on in the match and never looking back for the 25-19 win.
• Tallying 11 kills, Benedictine only recorded three attack errors in the final set for a .348 hitting percentage. After trailing early the offense came alive to win 25-19.
• The match saw 17 ties and six lead changes.

STAT LEADERS
• VanStedum had four kills while Jon Mueller tallied 10 kills
• Kacper Mazurek had eight kills with just one error for a .438 hitting percentage
• Markus Riemer had 34 assists and 12 digs
• Defensively, Ian Thompson led the team with 15 digs
• Dan Gibadlo had two block assists and one solo block
• The Eagles out-hit Trinity Christian with 38 kills and also had 47 digs with five blocks

STAT LEADERS
• Sterling Glover led the team with 16 kills while both Zach Loeding and Jon Mueller had eight kills
• VanStedum collected 11 kills with just one error with six block assists
• Mazurek had 14 kills while Riemer led the way with 56 assists and had 11 digs and three block assists
• Thompson led the team with 17 digs
