Women's Basketball Claims Sixth Straight

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team improved to 5-0 in the NACC by winning a sixth straight game, holding off Concordia University Wisconsin on New Year's Eve.

THE DETAILS
•
Returning to the floor for a game for the first time since December 10, Benedictine scored the first four points of the game on baskets from Casey Williams and Alena Moro
• The lead would reach five in the opening quarter before the visitors, the defending regular season conference champs, were able to claim the lead at 9-7
• Payton Sims beat the buzzer with a three-pointer at the close of the first to hand Benedictine a 12-11 advantage never trailing again
• With the game even at 13-13, Benedictine embarked on a 13-0 run opened on a layup from Andrea Fuoss
• Moro capped the run with a layup, making the score 26-13 with 2:40 remaining in the opening half
• Benedictine led by 11 at the half and maintained the lead through the third quarter
• Concordia Wisconsin used a 12-2 run to tie the score at 40-40 with 7:10 left in the game
• D'Asia Williams splashed home a jumper while Georgia Alexakos and Moro countered with layups to quickly stretch the lead back to 46-40
• Holding a 51-42 edge with just over four minutes to go, Benedictine went through a lengthy scoreless stretch
• Concordia Wisconsin was able to pull within 51-49 in the final minute, but three free throws provided space
• Head coach Charlie Averkamp served as an assistant at Concordia Wisconsin before joining Benedictine last year
