ROCKFORD, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team improved to 7-1 on the season by winning in overtime at Rockford.

THE DETAILS
• D'Asia Williams sent the game to overtime by putting back her own miss at the regulation buzzer
• Benedictine pulled away for the victory in overtime
• The contest was fairly close throughout, though Benedictine was unable to pull away after grabbing bigger leads
• Rockford scored the first four points of the game before Benedictine ripped off 11 in a row
• A layup from Alena Moro opened the run and a triple from Venita Parsons capped the stretch
• The hosts closed the opening quarter on a 9-0 run to take the lead
• Rockford went on to lead by six points and did not trail in the second quarter
• Bennita Drain tied the game in the closing moments of the half but Rockford split free throws to lead 37-36
• Williams opened the third with a three-pointer to put Benedictine in front
• Parsons opened a 7-0 spurt with a three to make the score 48-41 following the run
• Benedictine led by nine after another Parsons three, but Rockford finished strong to lead by a point entering the fourth
• Benedictine held a four-point advantage with just over two minutes left and was up a pair with 1:10 remaining before Rockford scored four straight, setting the stage for the late heroics
• Rockford struck first in the extra session, but trailing 80-79, Parsons opened a 12-0 run with a pair of free throws to take the largest lead of the game
• Parsons scored the first eight points of overtime
• Benedictine has now won a season high four consecutive contests
• The 91 points is a season high

"This group has great perseverance," said head coach Charlie Averkamp. "They play hard to the finish every game. D'Asia (Williams) did a great job of following her shot for the game-tying putback. Venita (Parsons) makes us go and stepped up again in overtime. Bennita (Drain) gave us great minutes defensively. This was a great team road win."

• Benedictine held a commanding 54-35 edge on the glass
• Benedictine shot 60 percent in the extra session and finished the game shooting 37.3 percent
• Benedictine connected on 11 three-pointers, 24 free throws, and saw five players reach double digits
• Parsons finished with a career best 23 points to lead Benedictine, making five three-pointers
• Williams tallied 21 points while Moro collected another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds
• Drain netted 10 off the bench to go with eight rebounds
