BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team kicked off the 2016 season with a loss at Illinois Wesleyan University.

THE DETAILS
• Trailing 2-1, Benedictine struck for three consecutive goals to open a 4-2 lead in the first half
• Madison Horan scored the first goal of her college career to tie the game with 22:04 remaining in the first
• The stretch saw the goals scored in a less than two minute span
• Samantha Link tallied her second of the contest and Becca Gullett capped the run with 20:50 left in the half
• Illinois Wesleyan responded with four straight goals to take a 6-4 lead and did not trail again
• Link's third goal of the day pulled Benedictine within 7-6 before halftime
• Link struck again on a free position attempt early in the second to tie the game
• The hosts netted two in a row before another goal from Gullett again brought Benedictine within a single tally at 9-8 with 17:33 to play
• Illinois Wesleyan closed out the game with five straight goals to grab the season opening win

STAT LEADERS
• Link, the program's career leader in goals, finished with four goals on six shots to lead Benedictine
• Gullett and Horan each scored twice
• Hannah Smith and Rebecca Berg split time in net with Smith playing the first and Berg the second
• Smith halted seven shots with Berg blocking three
• Smith picked up five groundballs while Gullett and Jasmine Moreno each added three
• Illinois Wesleyan held a 31-16 advantage in shots
