LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team kicked off the home portion of the schedule with a thrilling overtime win over Hanover College.

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine 9, Hanover 8

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine did not lead in a low-scoring first half
• Goals from Jasmine Moreno and Becca Gullett tied the score at 1-1 and 2-2, but Hanover tallied the final two goals of the first to lead 4-2
• The lead for the visitors would grow to 7-3 early in the second half before Benedictine played better defense
• Four different players scored in a stretch of four unanswered goals to even the game at 7-7 following a tally from Becca Gullett with just over six minutes left
• Down 8-7, Ella Campbell struck in the final minute to force overtime, burying a feed from Madison Horan
• Becca Gullett netted the game winner on a free-position shot with less than a minute to go in overtime

"I am extremely proud of the heart and hustle our girls showed for the duration of the game," said head coach Cat Thoreson. "They fought for every inch and were rewarded. They're taking away more than a win from this; they're taking away the power of hard work and determination."

STAT LEADERS
• Benedictine held a 41-19 advantage in shots
• Benedictine also led in groundballs and draw controls
• Becca Gullett scored three times with six groundballs and five draw controls while Nikki Gullett scored twice
• Hannah Smith tallied the win in goal, allowing just a single goal in over 24 minutes of action

Benedictine (1-1) will continue the non-conference slate on Saturday afternoon against Kalamazoo in a 1:00 p.m. home contest
