Men's Volleyball Moves to 2-0 in MCVL Action

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's volleyball team moved to 2-0 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League with a three-set sweep of North Central College on Saturday afternoon in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.

Benedictine 3, North Central 0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20)

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine trailed early in the first set but rallied back to tie it at 11 with a Jake Moran kill. A Sterling Glover ace gave BenU the lead and they never looked back, winning 25-17. The Eagles hit .275 in the first set with 16 kills and only five errors
• The Eagles trailed early again in the second set but a Kyle VanStedum kill tied it at eight. Down 12-10, NCC rallied to take a 14-13 lead but VanStedum and the Eagles offense tallied 13 total kills to tie it at 22. A John Mathews kill secured the Eagles win, 25-23
• With the third set tied at six, Benedictine went on a 7-0 run off the hand of Eric Krasich to take a 13-6 lead. Several unforced North Central errors gave the Eagles a 20-12 lead but they couldn't hold on, letting the Cardinals rally back to come within five. A Glover solo block gave the Eagles match point followed by a kill for the 25-20 victory

STAT LEADERS
• As a team, Benedictine out-hit North Central with 43 kills and a .222 hitting percentage, holding the Cardinals to just 29 kills and a .097 hitting percentage
• The Eagles had 48 digs and six blocks while NCC tallied 39 digs and 12.5 blocks
• Mathews had a team high 11 kills while Glover was just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs. Glover only recorded two hitting errors for a .304 hitting percentage
• VanStedum had five kills and just one error and Zach Loeding recorded six kills with two block assists
• Ian Thompson led the team with 15 digs

FROM THE COACH
"It was nice to get a sweep," said head coach Dan Buehring. "The guys stayed aggressive despite a few hiccups. We are excited to get two wins to start off conference play and will keep working hard to keep the momentum going."
