Eagles Fall to #4 UC Santa Cruz

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's volleyball team traveled to Milwaukee to take on UC Santa Cruz in non-conferene action on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles fell to the Slugs in four sets.

Benedictine 1, UC Santa Cruz 3 (10-25, 19-25, 25-21, 18-25)

THE DETAILS
• UC Santa Cruz tallied 12 kills and hit .458 in the first set while the Eagles had only six kills for a .-091 attack percentage falling to the Slugs 25-10
• With the second set tied at eight, UC Santa Cruz scored four straight and BenU could not recover falling 25-19
• After a back and forth start to the third set, the Eagles tied it at 11 and scored three straight including an ace from John Mathews to take the lead and never look back for the 25-21 win. Benedictine had 11 kills and just two errors in the set for a .346 attack percentage
• UC Santa Cruz broke away from a 15-all fourth set and took advantage of several BenU attack errors, winning 25-18

STAT LEADER
• Mathews and Zach Loeding each tallied eight kills while Loeding also recorded two block assists
• Jon Mueller had seven kills and Kyle VanStedum tallied six kills
• Markus Riemer recorded 40 assists, two block assists and nine digs
• Ian Thompson led the team with 15 digs
• As a team, BenU tallied 41 kills, 39 digs and only three blocks
• UC Santa Cruz posted 56 kills, 45 digs, nine blocks but had 13 service errors

Men's volleyball travels to Cincinnati on Friday, February 12 to take on #15 College of Mount St. Joseph for a 6:00 pm MCVL match.
