Men's Lacrosse Improves to 3-1

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team rebounded from the first loss of the season to knock off Olivet College and improve to 3-1 on the season.

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine 15, Olivet 12

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine was able to overcome a pair of deficits in the win
• After Dell Hune opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, Olivet recorded back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead
• Tony DePinto tied the score in the opening minute of the second quarter but two more Olivet tallies again allowed the visitors to lead
• Matthew Johnson opened a stretch of five consecutive Benedictine goals, leading to a 7-4 lead with 4:55 left in the first half
• Benedictine held a lead of 8-6 at halftime
• Two goals in the final 30 seconds of the third quarter made the score 12-7 entering the fourth
• Olivet found the back of the net four straight times to battle within 12-11 before a pair of goals from Corbin Gett helped put the game out of reach

FROM THE COACH
"This is a funny team. I actually think we enjoy playing on the road much more than at home based on the way we've performed the past two games," head coach Guy Bourdon said. "However, I can't discount the fact that we're beginning to develop a bit of character in these hard fought victories. It's a great sign of things to come."

STAT LEADERS
• Each team won 15 faceoffs with Benedictine holding a 42-34 advantage in groundballs
• Jeremy Voyda stopped seven shots in goal as Olivet held a 36-34 advantage in shots
• Gett logged four goals and an assist while David Blanco and Hune each talied three goals
• Brandon Pearl caused five turnovers and scooped up six groundballs

UP NEXT
Benedictine (3-1) will not play at home again until April. The next contest is at Beloit on Saturday afternoon in the conference opener
