Men's Lacrosse Opens Season With Road Win

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team opened the season with a road victory over Elmhurst College to reverse a defeat from last season.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine trailed only twice in the contest, using solid man-down defense to maintain the lead
• Corbin Gett broke away to score the first goal of the season on a feed from Dell Hune just over five minutes into the game
• Matthew Johnson handed Benedictine a 2-1 lead with three minutes remaining in the first before back-to-back goal from Elmhurst
• Gett's second goal of the quarter tied the score headed to the second
• Blake Keenan and Gett both scored to open the second, making the score 5-3
• Leading 6-4, Benedictine allowed Elmhurst to score three goals in a row to take a 7-6 edge
• Three goals in the final two minutes enabled Benedictine to lead 9-7 at the half
• After Elmhurst scored to open the fourth quarter before three straight goals put the game away
• The win marked the first career victory for head coach Guy Bourdon

"Hats off to Elmhurst tonight," head coach Guy Bourdon said. "They played us very tough tonight. That being said, we need to continue to improve going forward. What we learned from today's game will only help us get better as the season progresses."

Benedictine won despite being outshot 43-29 and having Elmhurst collect a 40-31 groundball advantage
• The defense limited Elmhurst to just 1-for-10 in man-up situations while successfully clearing 14-of-16 attempts
• Gett and Johnson each scored four goals with Johnson posting 10 shots
• Tony DePinto scored a goal and added three assists
• Kyle Wagner won 13 faceoffs and scooped six groundballs
• Jeremy Voyda played the entire game in goal, making 13 saves
