Baseball Rally Falls Short

AUBURNDALE, Wis. - The Benedictine University baseball team lost for the first time on the spring trip when a valiant ninth inning comeback fell short against Washington and Jefferson.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine could not solve the W&J starter, managing just five hits in 7.1 innings while striking out eight times
• A scoreless game through the first three innings, Washington and Jefferson, a perennial NCAA team, scored one in the fourth and two in the sixth
• Washington and Jefferson continued to extend the lead against the bullpen, scoring twice in the seventh and once more in the eighth
• Backs against the wall, Benedictine scored four runs in the ninth but could not finish the comeback
• Tanner Kiser and Dom DeMicco led off the inning with singles and moved up on a wild pitch
• With the bases loaded and one away, Kyle Bock doubled home three runs
• Bock came around on a groundout from pinch-hitter Julian Calixto, but Washington and Jefferson stopped the damage

STAT LEADERS
•
Bock was the only player to notch more than one hit, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs
• Seven different individuals collected hits as Benedictine tallied eight
• Ivan Guzman suffered the loss, allowing three runs in six innings of work
• Guzman walked two and struck out six while allowing seven hits
• Michael Mulder struck out the side in the ninth
