Baseball Bested on Walk-Off Homer

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Benedictine University baseball team, receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25, fell to another program receiving votes, Eastern Connecticut State, on a two-run walk-off homer in the ninth inning.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Chayancze Stirbis led off the game with a walk before coming around to score on a groundout from Nick Severino
• Eastern Connecticut instantly responded, scoring four times in the bottom of the inning to open a 4-1 lead
• Trailing 5-1, Benedictine began to rally with two runs in the fifth inning
• Andrew Hotze logged a two-out single and was along for the ride on a two-run homer from Frank Greco, making his first start of the season
• Three more runs came across in the seventh, enabling Benedictine to lead for the first time
• All three runs came across unearned following a two-out error
• Brandon Gipson plated two runs with a single
• Eastern Connecticut was able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning and connected on the game-winner with one away in the ninth

Three of the seven Benedictine hits came from Gipson, who also drove in a pair of runs
• The homer was just the second of the trip for Benedictine
• Eastern Connecticut connected on three longballs in the win
• Michael Lorenzi started on the hill and was relieved by James Holub in the second
• Holub went on to throw 5.1 innings, allowing just one hit
• Holub walked three and struck out eight while Marty Maves also worked 1.1 frames
• Christopher Nesbitt took the loss
