Men's Lacrosse Storms Past Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team bounced back by setting the tone early in a road win at Calvin College.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine scored the first five goals of the contest and did not trail in the game
• Tony DePinto opened the scoring with an unassisted tally less than two minutes into the game
• Corbin Gett extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal off a pass from Evan Coleman-Cobb at the 10:11 mark of the first half
• Calvin scored for the first time to begin the second quarter, cutting the margin to 5-1
• Three consecutive goals to close the first half handed Benedictine a 10-4 lead at the break
• The final goal from David Blanco came in a man-down situation
• Both teams scored five goals in the second half with Calvin notching the final two goals to account for the final

FROM THE COACH
"We started off fast today and never looked back," head coach Guy Bourdon said. "I thought we were efficient offensively and we were able to do some good things on the defensive side as well. We just need to cut down on the unforced mistakes and play disciplined lacrosse for 60 minutes."

STAT LEADERS

Matthew Johnson and DePinto each scored four goals with DePinto tallying three assists
• Gett scored twice and added four assists
• Jeffrey Smitheram played the whole game in net and stopped nine shots
• Benedictine held a 48-30 advantage in shots and a 46-34 margin in groundballs
• Benedictine won 18 faceoffs and completed 19-of-21 clears
• Kyle Wagner won 13 faceoffs
• Brandon Pearl led Benedictine with six groundballs
