Men's Lacrosse Edged at Home

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team dropped a conference contest for the first time after battling through the winter-like elements at home on Saturday afternoon.

FINAL SCORE
Concordia Wisconsin 7, Benedictine 6

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine did not lead in the contest as Concordia Wisconsin opened a 3-0 advantage in the first quarter
• Matthew Johnson tallied the first goal for Benedictine, poking home a feed from Tony DePinto with just over a minute to play in the opening quarter
• Dell Hune notched the lone goal of the second quarter with an unassisted tally at the 8:49 mark, bringing Benedictine within 3-2 at halftime
• The visitors used another 3-1 quarter in the third to open a three-goal margin for the second time at 6-3 headed to the final quarter
• Consecutive goals from Corbin Gett and Hune less than two minutes apart brought Benedictine within 6-5 early in the fourth
• To answer a Concordia Wisconsin marker, Johnson scored with 4:28 left, but Benedictine could not complete the rally with a thick snow falling
• Two shots on target were thwarted in the closing minutes

FROM THE COACH
"That was a tough loss to swallow," head oach Guy Bourdon said." We generated enough shots to win the game but we just couldn't seem to stop hitting defenders in front of the cage. I was very pleased with the performance of our defense, who has come a long way in the past few weeks. I think that starts with getting some stability in net. Hopefully we can take some positives from this loss and continue to improve."

STAT LEADERS
•
The stats for the contest were virtually even
• Benedictine held a 37-36 edge in shots while groundballs were even at 36 apiece
• Both teams turned the ball over 18 times with Benedictine completing 17-of-20 clears
• Johnson scored three goals on 13 shots and added an assist to pace Benedictine
• Hune scored twice on 12 attempts
• Gett logged eight groundballs
