Men's Volleyball Falls to #3 Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's volleyball team dropped their first Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League contest to #3 Carthage College on Saturday afternoon on the road.

THE FINAL
Benedictine 0, Carthage 3 (13-25, 23-25, 16-25)

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine trailed early in the first set and could never recover, allowing the Carthage offense to tally 14 kills for a .370 hitting percentage and the 25-13 win.
• The Eagles stepped up in the second set and took a 9-3 lead. Carthage would retaliate and inch their way back into the match to eventually tie it at 21. The RedMen went on a 3-1 run but BenU scored two straight including a kill from Kacper Mazurek to come within one but the Carthage offense was too much, winning 25-23.
• The third set saw Carthage tally 18 kills and hit .500 after a back and forth beginning. Tied at 10, the RedMen went on a 7-2 run en route to a 25-16 win.
• Two Carthage players tallied double-figure kills as the RedMen out-hit the Eagles with 47 kills and also had seven blocks.

THE STATS
• Sterling Glover and Jon Mueller each had five kills while Glover recorded two solo blocks
• Zach Loeding had four kills while Mazurek had a game high seven kills
• Markus Riemer recorded 21 assists and five digs

UP NEXT
Men's volleyball, which is 12-6 overall and 6-1 in the league, is back in action on Sunday, March 6 at 12:00 p.m. against #14 Milwaukee School of Engineering in the Rice Center. It is senior night where Jon Mueller will be honored before the game.
