Baseball Produces Another NACC Split

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team played two more close contests, splitting with visiting Edgewood College in a Monday doubleheader.

THE DETAILS
• Both games were decided by three runs or less and Benedictine has played nine such contests this season
• Edgewood opened a 3-0 lead in the opener on a first inning two-out, three-run homer
• Two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth to bring Benedictine within 3-2
• Kyle Bock and Tanner Kiser logged singles and Brandon Gipson doubled home the first tally with the second run scoring on a groundout from Nick Severino
• Benedictine took the lead with five two-out unearned runs in the fifth
• With the bases loaded, two runs came in on an error
• Gipson singled home another run following the error and Severino logged a two-run single
• Edgewood scored twice in the sixth to pull within 7-5 and chase starter Frank Greco, but Christopher Nesbitt tossed the final two frames to pick up the save
• Benedictine grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the second contest with a pair in the second
• Severino singled home a run in the frame with Kiser adding a double
• Joe Palasiewicz twirled six shutout frames before Edgewood evened the game with two in the seventh
• The game-winning run came across unearned and scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth

STAT LEADERS
• The first contest saw Benedictine bang out 10 hits
• Gipson, Erik Callaghan and D.J. Dillon each finished with a pair
• Severino finished with three RBIs
• Frank Greco earned his fourth win, striking out five in 5.1 innings
• Severino and Kiser each picked up two hits in the second contest
• Palasiewicz struck out eight in 6.2 innings and allowed two runs in a no-decision
• Nesbitt took the loss, striking out four in 2.1 innings
