Softball Moves to 5-1 in NACC Play

The Benedictine University softball team moved to 5-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference after a sweep of Rockford University on Monday night.

GAME ONE
THE FINAL

Benedictine 11, Rockford 2 (6 innings)

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles took a 2-0 lead after the first inning when Shannon Fritsche doubled then scored on a Melissa Stoch triple. Stoch scored on a wild pitch
• The second inning saw Benedictine tally four more runs off of four hits and one RU error. Holly Haberkorn doubled and was driven in on a Kelli Holstine triple. Angie Malsack also tallied an RBI in the inning
• Kassee Johnson, Malsack, Stock and Kailee Cable all singled in the fourth when BenU took a 9-0 lead
• Rockford tallied two runs off of two hits in the fifth to keep the game alive
• Haberkorn tripled in the sixth, scoring two runs to secure the win

THE STATS
• Stoch and Cable were both 3-4 while Haberkorn was 2-4 with two RBI
• Johnson was 2-2 with two runs scored while Holstine was 2-3 with a run and an RBI
• Fritsche was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI
• Haberkorn also picked up the win for the Eagles, allowing six hits with three strikeouts in six innings
• Benedictine tallied 16 hits in the game

GAME TWO
THE FINAL

Benedictine 9, Rockford 1 (5 innings)

THE DETAILS
• After a scoreless first inning, BenU took a 2-0 lead with sinlges from Cable, Haberkorn, Holstine and Jenna Boyajian
• Rockford tallied a run in the third but Benedictine answered with three runs off their own in the bottom of the frame on a Cable inside the park homerun
• In the fourth, Fritsche and Boyajian recorded RBI's to secure the 9-1 victory

THE STATS
• Cable was 3-3 with three runs scored and three RBI
• Boyajian was 2-2 with three RBI and Haberkorn was 2-3
• Melissa Guzior allowed five hits with one strikeout and five innings on the mound

UP NEXT
Softball, now 17-7 overall, is back in action on Wednesday, April 13 when they host last year's NACC champion, Aurora University, starting at 3:00 p.m.
