Softball Drops Two to Aurora


After losing 5-0 in the first game of a doubleheader to conference foe Aurora University, the Benedictine University softball team owned a 5-0 lead over the Spartans in the nightcap but let the lead slip away, falling 10-8.

THE FINAL

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles tallied just five hits in the first game
• In the first inning, Aurora tallied a run off of three hits
• Three scoreless innings would go by before the Spartans connected on five hits for four runs in the fifth inning

THE STATS
• Shannon Fritsche and Kelli Holstine were both 2-3
• Holly Haberkorn (8-4) received the loss for BenU, giving up eight hits, two walks and tallied four strikeouts

THE FINAL

Benedictine 8, Aurora 10

THE DETAILS
• The Benedictine bats came alive in the first inning of the second game. The Eagles tallied five runs on six hits from Courtney Grasz, Kailee Cable, Melissa Stoch, Jenna Boyajian, Haberkorn and Holstine
• The Eagles allowed Aurora to come within three in the fourth inning but Benedictine rebounded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to take an 8-2 lead
• The Spartans collected three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at eight
• In the seventh, Aurora took advantage of a Benedictine error, scoring two more runs off of three hits to take the lead
• The Eagles left one runner stranded in the bottom of the frame, falling 10-8

THE STATS
• Grasz was 2-4 while Cable was 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI
• Boyajian tallied three RBI and was 3-4 at the plate
• Melissa Guzior (9-5) allowed 15 hits and four earned runs in seven innings

UP NEXT
The Benedictine softball team, now 17-9 overall and 5-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday, April 16 for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
