Softball Splits With MSOE

The Benedictine University softball team split a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles won 6-0 in game one but fell 3-1 to the Raiders in nine innings in the night cap.

THE FINAL

THE DETAILS
• After two scoreless innings, Benedictine took a 3-0 lead in the third. Shannon Fritsche singled up the middle and reached third after stealing second and a wild pitch. Courtney Grasz drove her in and later scored on a Kailee Cable single through the right side.
• A Jenna Boyajian double to left center field would score Cable and put BenU up 3-0
• In the fifth inning, Fritsche led off with a double and scored on a Grasz single. Cable doubled to put the Eagles up 5-0
• Benedictine took a 6-0 lead in the sixth when Fritsche scored Kelli Holstine
• The Raiders would remain scoreless in the seventh for the Benedictine win
 
THE STATS
• Fritsche was 4-4 with an RBI
• Grasz was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored
• Cable was 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI
• Holly Haberkorn (10-4) allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Shannon Fritsche scored Kelli Holstine on a sac fly
• Neither team would score again until MSOE tied the game in the seventh tallying one hit and one run with one BenU error
• Both teams battled in the eighth but came up scoreless
• In the top of the ninth inning, the Raiders collected three hits and scored two runs with another BenU error
• The Eagles offense could not deliver in the bottom of the frame, falling 3-1
 
THE STATS
• Grasz was 3-4 and Holstine was 1-3 with a run scored
• Melissa Guzior pitched eight innings with six strikeouts and zero earned runs while allowing four hits
• Haberkorn made an appearance in the ninth inning, allowing two hits, one earned run and tallying one strikeout
 
UP NEXT
Benedictine softball, now 20-10 overall and 8-4 in conference play, will travel to Concordia University-Chicago for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, April 19.
