Softball Out-Slugs Concordia-Chicago

The Benedictine University softball team tallied five homeruns in a shutout sweep over Concordia University-Chicago on Tuesday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE
THE FINAL

Benedictine 14, Concordia-Chicago 0 (5 inn)
 
THE DETAILS
• Melissa Stoch started off the scoring for the Eagles in the second inning with a solo shot to center field, her fourth homerun of the season
• Benedictine would tally 11 runs off of eight hits and two CUC errors in the third inning that included RBI doubles from Jenna Boyajian and Holly Haberkorn as well as a three-run homer from Kailee Cable
• The scoring would continue in the fifth inning when Stoch and Boyajian drove in runs for the 14-0 win
 
THE STAT LEADERS
• Shannon Fritsche was 2-4 with two runs scored
• Stoch was 2-3 with two RBI and Cable was 1-3 with three RBI
• Boyajian was 3-3 with three RBI
• Haberkorn allowed just five hits with seven strikeouts in five innings on the mound

THE DETAILS
• Courtney Grasz homered in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead
• In the same inning, Stoch collected her fifth homerun of the season after a Cable double to center field
• Benedictine tallied three more runs in the second with another three-run homerun from Cable, her fifth of the year
• Up 6-0, the Eagles didn't score again until the fifth inning after a Boyajian RBI single to center field
• In the sixth inning, Benedictine secured their win with five more runs that included doubles from Kassee Johnson, Stoch and Haberkorn. Angie Malsack had a two-RBI single that gave BenU the 12-0 win
 
THE STAT LEADERS
• Grasz was 3-3 with three runs scored
• Cable, Stoch and Haberkorn was 2-4 and combined for eight RBI
• Melissa Guzior received the win, allowing just four hits with three strikeouts in six innings
 
UP NEXT
Benedictine softball, now 22-10 overall and 10-4 in the NACC, travel to Marian University on Saturday, April 23 for a 12:00 p.m. conference doubleheader.
