Baseball Drops Two Late

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University dropped a pair of last-at-bat decisions to Dominican University in being swept for the first time this season in conference play.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine built a 4-0 lead in the opener only to see Dominican plate four unearned runs in the ninth to grab the decision
• Frank Greco worked 8.1 innings in the opener, allowing just one earned run
• Benedictine created a pair of runs in the third with consecutive bunt singles from Nick Severino and Justin Montalvo
• A double steal followed by a sacrifice fly from Chayancze Stirbis made the score 1-0 while a wild pitch extended the margin
• A pair of two-out runs in the sixth stretched the lead to 4-0 on an RBI double from Dom DeMicco and a single from Andrew Hotze
• Dominican scored for the first time in the eighth and plated four in the ninth to win, scoring three times with two outs
• Benedictine stranded runners at second and third in the bottom of the ninth
• Tanner Kiser singled home the first run of the second contest in the bottom of the first to hand Benedictine a 1-0 edge
• Dominican took the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth against starter Joe Palasiewicz
• Palasiewicz worked out of a bases loaded no out jam in the sixth to finish the outing
• Severino singled and stole second in the eighth before Kiser was able to tie the game with a two-out single
• Dominican left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth and Benedictine saw the winning run thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the frame
• Benedictine scored twice in the 10th on a two-run single from DeMicco but left the tying and go ahead runs on base
• Baseball has played 17 games decided by three runs or less including 12 of the 13 defeats

STAT LEADERS

Kiser and DeMicco each picked up three hits with a pair of RBIs in the second contest as Benedictine totaled 10
• Severino logged two hits and scored twice with a pair of steals, swiping two in each game
• Marty Maves retired the first six batters he faced out of the bullpen in the second game
• Hotze logged three hits in the first contest with Same Kerr collecting a pair
