Baseball Rebounds With Sweep

LISLE, Ill. - Rebounding after being swept at home on Saturday, the Benedictine University baseball team went on the road and swept Concordia Wisconsin.

THE DETAILS
•
Continuing the season trend, both games were close, extending the number of contests decided by three runs or less to 19 including the last four doubleheaders
• Benedictine set the tone early, scoring four times in the top of the first, but needed to hold off a late Concordia Wisconsin rally
• Nick Severino led off the game with a triple and Kyle Bock followed with a walk
• Tanner Kiser put Benedictine on the board with an RBI single
• Bock scored on a wild pitch and Brandon Gipson tripled home a pair following a two-out error
• Kiser doubled home Justin Montalvo in the fourth to stretch the lead to 5-0
• Concordia Wisconsin scored twice in the bottom of the frame and notched two more in the eighth before leaving the bases loaded
• Falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the second in game two, Benedictine plated three runs in the third to instantly respond
• Mounting a threat with Montalvo reaching on an error and Severino following with a single, a balk brought home the tying run
• Kiser and Dom DeMicco each knocked home runs with groundouts
• Concordia Wisconsin scored a single run in the fourth, but Frank Greco singled home an insurance run in the eighth to account for the final
• The hosts left the tying runs on base in the ninth

STAT LEADERS

Ivan Guzman worked 7.1 innings in the opener to earn the win
• Will Diessner tossed the final 1.2 innings for his first save
• Benedictine won the first contest despite just six hits
• Gipson and Kiser each picked up a pair of hits and knocked in two
• The victory in the second contest came despite just five hits, all coming from different individuals
• Kamren Ackerman spun 7.2 innings in the second game to collect his first win, striking out four
• Alex Wolfe bridged the gap with .2 scoreless frames while Diessner notched the final two outs for his second save of the day

Benedictine (15-13, 9-7 NACC) will host Wheaton on Tuesday night in a non-conference game
