Johnson Sets Record as Men's Lacrosse Rolls

LISLE, Ill. - Matthew Johnson set the single season record for goals as the Benedictine University men's lacrosse team rebounded with a win over Cornell College.

THE DETAILS
• Johnson scored off the opening faceoff to give Benedictine a 1-0 lead
• Johnson provided an assist off the next faceoff, feeding Jimmy Lopez to make the score 2-0 less than two minutes into the contest
• Benedictine led 4-1 after the first and blew open the contest with nine goals in the second quarter
• Johnson set the record with his 42nd of the season on a pass from David Blanco with 6:17 left in the opening half
• Leading 13-1 at the break, Dell Hune struck on the opening possession of the third quarter to cap a stretch of 12 consecutive goals

STAT LEADERS
• Johnson scored five times on 12 shots and added a pair of assists
• Hune struck for four goals on five shots
• Eight players scored in the win
• 29 saw the field for some action
• Jeffrey Smitheram stopped seven shots in playing a bulk of the game in net
