Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts Men's Lacrosse on Senior Day

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team scored the final five goals to notch a win during the program's first ever senior day.

THE DETAILS
•
After a successful clear following the first venture up the field, Benedictine made good on a third shot attempt as Dell Hune found the back of the net with 13:42 remaining in the opening quarter
• The teams traded goals for the first quarter with Corbin Gett striking on a feed from Hune in the closing minutes to give Benedictine a 3-2 lead after one
• Benedictine scored the final three goals of the first half to open a 7-4 advantage at the break with Gett scoring just before the buzzer
• A strong third quarter allowed MSOE to pull close, scoring on the opening possession of the fourth quarter to even the score at 9-9
• Benedictine tallied the final five goals to cap the regular season with a victory
• Matthew Johnson opened the stretch of goals, burying a pass from Gett
• The contest marked the final home game for the first ever group of lacrosse players to come to Benedictine
• The senior have logged three consecutive double-digit win seasons and 39 wins total in four years
• The win matched the single season school record for victories

STAT LEADERS

Benedictine held a 43-28 advantage in shots with a 33-27 margin in groundballs
• Jeffrey Smitheram played the entire game in goal and stopped 11 shots
• Johnson finished with four goals and an assist while David Blanco struck for three tallies
• Seven different individuals scored in the contest
• Gett picked up a pair of goals with two assists while Hune scored once and added three helpers
