Softball Splits with Lakeland

The Benedictine University softball team split a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Lakeland College on Sunday afternoon.  The Eagles dropped game one 3-2, but managed a series split with a 7-3 victory in game two.
 
GAME ONE
THE FINAL

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles got started early with a Shannon Fritsche leadoff double.
• Courtney Grasz drove in Fritsche on a sacrifice fly.
• Lakeland was able to tie the game at one in the bottom half of the first
• Lakeland took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth
• Kailee Cable got things going in the sixth with a double.
• Melissa Stoch brought the tying run around to score with a single up the middle
• The Eagles could not prevent Lakeland from taking the lead in the bottom half of the sixth, and fell 3-2.
 
THE STATS
• Grasz went 2-3 with an RBI
• Stoch went 1-3 with an RBI
• Holly Haberkorn (12-6) pitched six strong innings, surrendering only one earned run on four hits.

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles were the first to get on the board in the top of the third thanks to a Courtney Grasz single, scoring Kassee Johnson
• Lakeland tied the game in bottom of the fourth
• An offensive explosion in the top of the seventh saw the Eagles score six runs on seven hits
• A Kailee Cable single up the middle scored two runs, giving the Eagles the lead once again
• Miranda Hiemer joined the hit parade with a single through the left side, scoring two runs.
• Trailing 7-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Lakeland did not go quietly scoring two runs before finally falling 7-3.
 
THE STATS
• Grasz went 3-3 with an RBI
• Holly Haberkorn went 2-4 with a run and an RBI
• Johnson went 1-3 with a walk and two runs
• Melissa Guzior (12-6) threw seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits
 
UP NEXT
Benedictine softball, now 24-12 overall and 12-6 in conference play, will be back in action at home Friday, April 29 for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Concordia University-Wisconsin. Come cheer on the Eagles and help us honor the seniors on senior day.
