Eagles Split With CUW on Senior Day

The Benedictine University softball team secured a spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament after a split with Concordia University-Wisconsin on Friday night, defeating the Falcons 2-0 in game one but falling 4-3 in the nightcap. Before the second game, the Eagles celebrated Senior Day where they honored Kailee Cable, Miranda Hiemer, Alexis Doherty, Melissa Stoch and Melissa Guzior.

THE SCORING DETAILS
•Benedictine took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI from Cable after Shannon Fritsche and Courtney Grasz reached base earlier in the inning
• After two scoreless innings, BenU tallied another run in the fourth when Holly Haberkorn scored on a CUW error. The Falcons tallied four errors in the game
 
THE STATS
• Grasz was 2-2 while Haberkorn, Angie Malsack and Jenna Boyajian each tallied hits
• On the mound, Haberkorn allowed just three hits with four strikeouts

THE SCORING DETAILS
• Both teams were held scoreless through four innings
• Concordia-Wisconsin connected on two hits in the fifth, which resulted in four runs after two BenU errors
• With the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame, Grasz doubled to left field, scoring Breanna Sobotka who singled earlier in the inning and Kassee Johnson who walked.
• Down 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Benedictine threatened to tie the game after a Johnson double to left field, who scored on a Cable sac fly. The Eagles couldn't connect for any more hits, falling 4-3
• Benedictine tallied three errors in the game
 
THE STATS
• Grasz was 2-4 with two RBI
• Sobotka was 1-3 with a run scored
• Johnson was 1-2 with two runs scored
• Guzior tallied zero earned runs in the loss, allowing seven hits with one strikeout
 
UP NEXT
Benedictine, who is now 25-13 overall and 15-5 in the NACC, has their last regular season contest of the year, traveling to Dominican University for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Dominican, who also clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament, sits at #2 while BenU and CUW are tied for the #3 spot. All three teams are behind #1 Aurora.
