Softball Sweeps Edgewood

The Benedictine softball team recorded two shutouts on Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference sweep of Edgewood College.

GAME ONE
THE FINAL
Benedictine 8, Edgewood 0 (6 innings)

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine took a 2-0  lead in the second inning after a Kelli Holstine two-RBI double that scored Melissa Stoch and Holly Haberkorn who walked earlier in the inning
• In the fourth, Edgewood committed two errors that lead to a BenU run
• The fifth inning saw Kailee Cable and Jenna Boyajian tally singles for three RBI. Benedictine collected two hits for four runs and two EC errors in the inning
• Benedictine secured their 8-0 win in the sixth when Courtney Grasz singled in Kassee Johnson

THE STATS
• Grasz was 2-4 with an RBI while Cable had a run scored and an RBI with one hit
• Holstine was 1-2 with two RBI
• Holly Haberkorn picked up her seventh win of the season, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts in six innings

THE FINAL
Benedictine 4, Edgewood 0

THE DETAILS
• After a scoreless first inning, Benedictine took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Boyajian RBI single
• The third inning saw Edgewood record two errors that led to three runs off of just one hit for BenU
• Edgewood tallied five hits and two errors in the game

THE STATS
• Melissa Guzior recorded four strikeouts and allowed five hits in seven innings
• Holstine was 2-3 while Boyajian was 1-2 with two RBI
• Cable tallied a hit with two runs

UP NEXT
The Benedictine softball team, now 15-7 overall and 3-1 in NACC action, host Rockford College tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
