Baseball Drops Tournament Opener

MEQUON, Wis. - The second-seeded Benedictine University baseball team opened play in the 2016 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with a loss to third-seeded Aurora University.

THE DETAILS
•
Aurora led the entire game, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer
• Benedictine came back with a run in the bottom of the inning
• Back-to-back walks opened the game and with one out Tanner Kiser singled home a run but Benedictine would leave the bases loaded
• Aurora opened a 6-1 lead after scoring four runs in the third inning
• Benedictine made it 6-3 with two runs in the bottom of the third
• Kiser doubled home a run and Brandon Gipson plated a run with a fielder's choice but Benedictine stranded a pair
• Both teams settled in during the middle frames before Aurora scored three in the eighth, hitting another homer
• Chayancze Stirbis drove home a run in the ninth to account for the final
• Concordia Wisconsin is serving as the hosts of the tournament

STAT LEADERS
•
Frank Greco lost for the first time on the season, allowing six earned runs in six innings on 10 hits
• Jacob Trumpis, Marty Maves, and James Holub all worked an inning out of the bullpen
• Benedictine managed just six hits in the game while Aurora totaled 14
• Kiser was the lone individual to record more than one hit in the contest, tallying two with a walk and two RBIs
• Kiser owns 13 multi-hit performances on the season
