Softball Falls to Emory in NCAA Super Regional

In the first game of the Atlanta NCAA Super Regional, the Benedictine softball team battled with Emory University all the way to the bottom of the seventh inning when Emory hit a walk-off single to win the game.

"We battled all the way to the end," said Jenna Boyajian. "We know what we have to do tomorrow and we're going to fight as hard as we can."

THE FINAL
Benedictine 1, Emory 2

THE SCORING DETAILS
• After two scoreless innings, Kassee Johnson singled up the middle in the third inning. With two outs, Kailee Cable reached on an Emory error, scoring Johnson to take a 1-0 lead
• Angie Malsack and Shannon Fritsche singled in the fifth but Benedictine could not tally a run
• In the bottom of the frame, Emory led off the inning with a BenU error. Two batters later, EU belted a triple to right center field to tie the game at one
• With one out in the seventh, Emory doubled to left center. A walk put a runner on first and with two outs Emory won the game on a walk off to left center.

THE STATS
• The Eagles tallied five hits from Fritsche, Grasz, Boyajian, Malsack and Johnson.
• On the mound, Holly Haberkorn allowed one earned run, six hits and tallied three strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

"I thought it was a well fought battle between two good teams," said head coach Kate Heidkamp. I am happy with how we put the ball in play. Holly battled and I think she had a tremendous game. Our only focus is on the game tomorrow."
