Baseball Sweeps Concordia Chicago

LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University baseball team swept Concordia University – Chicago in their final conference series of the season to secure a second place finish in the NACC.

THE DETAILS
• Dom DeMicco got the Eagles started in the first inning with a monster solo home run over the right field fence
• Andrew Hotze lead off the second inning with a double, he would advance to third on a groundout, and be driven on a sacrifice fly by Chayancze Stirbis to take a 2-0 lead
• Nick Severino would get himself into scoring position on a double, move to third on a balk, and later score on a groundout by Kyle Bock to make it 3-0
• Concordia clawed back two runs the top of the fifth, and tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth
• The Eagles blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs
• DeMicco got the Eagles rolling with a double, and a Tanner Kiser single after a wild pitch made it 4-3
• Concordia loaded the bases and Stirbis capitalized with a single that scored two runs, increasing the lead to 6-3
• D.J. Dillon knocked in another run with a single, making the lead 7-3
• DeMicco homered again in the eighth to make it 8-3
• Frank Greco pitched a complete game, picking up his team high seventh win of the season
• Game two began as a pitcher's duel, as each team's starter held the other in check late into the game
• Joe Palasiewicz posted seven consecutive scoreless innings to start the game
• The Eagles were the first to score thanks to a solo home run by Severino in the sixth inning
• Hotze and Stirbis both hit singles in the seventh and Dillon was able to knock home one on a single, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead
• Concordia Chicago responded with five runs, including a grand slam, in the top of the eighth
• The Eagles gave themselves a chance though by tacking on two runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the deficit to 5-4
• A Stirbis single in the ninth brought the winning run to the plate
• Dillon did not disappoint, as he launched the game winning home run over the left field fence
 
THE STATS
• Jacob Trumpis picked up his second win of the season with two scoreless innings of relief in the second game
• DeMicco tallied four hits, three runs, and two RBIs in the opener
• Hotze had three hits and two runs in the first game
• Dillon led the way with two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in game two
