Women's Volleyball Drops Two at NACC/IIAC Crossover



The Benedictine University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Friday afternoon at the NACC/IIAC Crossover Challenge.

THE FINAL

Benedictine 2, Dubuque 3 (25-20, 23-25, 25-14, 19-25, 9-15)
 
THE DETAILS
• The Eagles trailed early in the first set before rallying back to tie it at 12 on a Taylor Dunwell kill
• Benedictine took the lead with two straight Claudia Schmidt and Kara Epping blocks en route to the 25-20 win
• In the second set, BenU trailed by as many as five before coming within one, 23-22, after two Kristina Billie aces
• It wasn't enough as Dubuque would go on to win 25-23
• Benedictine led the entire third set and an Erin Wiegand kill would finalize the 25-14 win
• Dubuque tallied 15 kills in set four, winning 25-19
• Benedictine trailed 4-1 but rallied back to tie it at five on the serve of Billie
• The Eagles would only tally three kills in the set and would fall 15-9
 
STAT LEADERS
• Dunwell led the team with 12 kills while Wiegand recorded 10 kills
• Kelcey Adams had 15 digs and 17 aces while Billie had her second highest dig total of the season, 32, and a career high eight aces
• Epping had six kills and five block assists and Caitlyn Martin tallied 11 digs

Benedictine 1, Central 3 (21-25, 26-24, 22-25, 14-25)
 
THE DETAILS
• Benedictine trailed early in the first set but tied the game on two Billie aces
• The Eagles could not recover as Central would go on to win 25-21
• The second set was all Benedictine as they recorded 18 kills and a .292 hitting percentage for the 26-24 win
• The third set saw BenU trail early but two Epping kills but the Eagles within three
• Alyssa O'Boyle rattled off three straight serves but it wasn't enough as BenU would lose 25-22
• Central would go on an 8-1 run early in the fourth set and Benedictine could not recover, falling 25-14
 
STAT LEADERS
• Dunwell tallied 11 kills and 10 digs while Schmidt had 10 kills and two block assists
• Epping had 10 kills
• O'Boyle led the offense with 24 assists and 15 digs while Vanessa Possidoni recorded 11 digs
• Billie led all players with 24 digs and two aces
 
UP NEXT
Benedictine, now 6-9, continue play in the NACC/IIAC Crossover Challenge on Saturday morning when they host Simpson at 10:00 am followed by a 2:00 pm match against Luther.
