Men's Soccer Cruises Past Aurora



LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team defeated Aurora University for the first time since 2008 by rolling to a 6-0 decision at home on Wednesday night.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine wasted no time in setting the tone for the night despite adverse conditions to start
• Nick Kapetanos blasted home a deflection in the seventh minute to open the scoring following an attempt from Santiago Beltran
• Less than five minutes later another rebound goal pushed the margin to 2-0 when Erik Stammer cleaned up a shot from Yair Ortega
• Kapetanos extended the lead to 3-0 in the 19th minute by angling home a shot from the left edge on feeds from Pedroa Parra and Beltran
• The lead continued to extend early in the second half
• Kapetanos found the back of the net for a third time on a flick from Aldreiron Smith in the 55th minute
• Kapetanos pushed the lead to 5-0 in the 61st minute for his fourth goal of the night on an individual effort, playing a through ball to himself following a feed from Beltran
• The final tally of the night came off the foot of Stammer in the 69th minute
• The six goals marked the most in a contest this season and the margin of victory was also the largest of the year
• Benedictine, ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA Central Region Poll, is unbeaten in the last five matches (4-0-1)

"The weather was wild tonight, but it was great seeing us capitalize on so many of our chances throughout the game," said head coach Atilla Schmidt. "I was also very pleased with the performance of our defensive group especially since they were able to keep Aurora scoreless for the first time all season."

• Antonio Marti-Polo tallied five saves in the blank sheet
• Kapetanos finished with four goals in the game and is now tied for fifth in conference history in points and ranks fifth in goals
• Kapetanos leads the conference in goals with 13 and points with 27
• Stammer scored twice while Beltran added three assists
