Eagles Battle With #14 NYU

 The Benedictine University men's volleyball team wrapped up their east coast trip on Saturday morning, falling in five sets to  #14 New York University, their second Top 15 team in as many days.
 
THE FINAL
BenU 2, NYU 3 (25-17, 15-25, 24-26, 27-25, 11-15)
 
SET ONE
• Both teams traded points in the first set and with the score tied at 17 the Eagles went on an 8-0 run off the serve of Markus Riemer that included an ace and two Nick Malak kills for the win
• Benedictine tallied 10 kills and hit .333 while holding the Violets to a .100 hitting percentage that included seven attack errors
 
SET TWO
• New York University took a 12-6 lead in the second set and never looked back for the 25-15 win
• The Eagles only had nine kills with as many errors
 
SET THREE
• The teams battled to the very end in set three as NYU looked to pull away with a 24-20 lead
• A Malak kill and ace along with two NYU errors tied the set at 24 but the Violet offense was too much as they went on to win 26-24
 
SET FOUR
• Every time NYU would pull away with the lead, Benedictine would rally back to keep it even in set four
• With the score tied at 25, an Elijah Medlock kill and solo block forced a fifth set
 
SET FIVE
• Despite giving up the first point of the set, the Violets would not trail again
• NYU tallied an impressive nine kills and a .667 hitting percentage in the set

UP NEXT
Benedictine, now 1-3 overall, is back in action on Saturday, January 28 when they begin Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League action at Greenville College with a 1:00 pm contest.
