Eagles Fly By Fontbonne

Benedictine University men's volleyball capped off the weekend with a 3-0 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League win against Fontbonne University on Sunday afternoon in St. Louis, MO.

THE DETAILS
•The first set saw Benedictine take an early 10-4 lead after two Nick Malak aces – The Eagles would only allow Fontbonne to score four more points in the set, holding the Griffins to a .034 hitting percentage
• Despite taking a 6-5 second set lead, BenU allowed Fontbonne to go on a 5-0 run – The Eagles would eventually tie it back up at 18 as both teams continued to trade points – Tied at 25, Benedictine would win after a Fontbonne attack error and a Sterling Glover kill
• The teams traded kills to start the set, both recording 15 total kills in the third set – Tied at 20 Benedictine scored five straight including three kills from Glover for the 25-20 win
 
STAT LEADERS
Zach Loeding had seven kills with zero errors for a .700 hitting percentage
• Glover tallied 12 kills, four digs and three block assists while Elijah Medlock had 12 kills and nine digs
Markus Riemer led the defense with 13 digs and also had 35 assists
Jonathan Valentini had 10 digs
• As a team, Benedictine totaled 41 kills, 53 digs and 12 blocks

"It is a great feeling to get two wins during our opening conference weekend," said head coach Dan Buehring. "The guys really battled and I saw some great things from them this weekend. We have a lot of work ahead of us and I'm excited to see how they respond this week in practice."
 
UP NEXT
Benedictine, now 3-3 overall and 2-0 in MCVL action, continues conference play when they host Dominican University this Friday, February 3, at 7:00 pm in the Rice Center.
