Men's Volleyball Opens League Play With Win Over Greenville

The Benedictine University men's volleyball team opened up Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) action on Saturday night, beating Greenville College in straight sets.

THE DETAILS
• After a back and forth start to the first set, Benedictine pulled away with back-to-back blocks from Lewis Stein and Elijah Medlock and never looked back, winning 25-20
• The Eagles trailed in the second set but took the lead after five straight serves from Sterling Glover that included an ace and a Medlock kill – Benedictine would go on to win 25-20
• Benedictine recorded 19 kills in the third set and led by as many as eight for the 25-17 win
 
THE STAT LEADERS
• Nick Malak led the team with 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage
• Zach Loeding recorded 10 kills and hit .600 with two block assists
• Markus Riemer paced the offense with 35 assists and also had a team high 11 digs
• Jonathan Valentini tallied 10 digs
• As a team, Benedictine ended the match with 47 kills, 40 digs and seven blocks

The Eagles, now 2-3 overall, continue league play on Sunday afternoon when they take on Fontbonne University.
