Volleyball Splits First Day of Eagle Classic

The Benedictine University women's volleyball team hosted the first day of the annual Eagle Classic on Friday afternoon. The Eagles dropped their first match to Carthage College before taking down Finlandia.

CARTHAGE
• Despite taking an early lead after back-to-back kills, the Eagles allowed Carthage to tie it at 12
• The teams battled back and forth before Carthage's offense caught fire and tallied 15 kills for the 25-18 win
• In the second set, CC took an early lead and never looked back, hitting .433 in the set with 17 kills
• The third set saw Benedictine record seven kills but it wasn't enough as the Carthage offense was overpowering
 
FINLANDIA
• Benedictine's offense in the first set was impressive, tallying 16 kills for a .387 hitting percentage
• The Eagles held Finlandia to just a .000 hitting percentage in set two for the 25-15 win
• Several errors down the stretch cost BenU the third set
• Both teams traded points early on in the fourth set but it was BenU who pulled away at the end, winning 25-20
