Men's Hoops Scorches Past Concordia Chicago


RIVER FOREST, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team shot 61 percent in the first half to open an insurmountable lead in claiming a second straight win at Concordia Chicago.

• Benedictine did not trail in the game and led by as many as 49 points in the contest
• The first four shot attempts fell through as Benedictine built a 10-4 lead just two minutes into the contest
• Zach Gorney hit a three-pointer with 14:09 left in the half to push the lead to double digits at 21-11
• Gorney ignited a 12-0 run with a jumper at the 12:14 mark and capped the spurt with a transition layup, making the score 36-13 with 8:16 remaining in the first
• Eric Grygo made a layup with 1:07 left in the half to give Benedictine the biggest lead of the frame at 53-27
• Leading 65-42 early in the second half, Kenny Bogus converted on a three-point play to open a 14-1 run, pushing the lead to 80-43
• Jens Soderholm stretched the advantage to 41 with a triple to open an 11-0 run, making the score 91-50 with 8:26 to play
• Brayden Olson drilled a three to hand Benedictine the biggest lead of the day at 99-50 with 7:02 to go

• Benedictine shot 61.3 percent in the first half and made nine three-pointers in the second half while shooting 51.5 percent from the field to finish at 56.3 percent
• Benedictine held a 40-34 advantage on the glass and notched eight blocks while scoring 40 points in the paint and 26 off turnovers
• The defense limited Concordia Chicago to just 36.9 percent shooting
• Five players reached double figures in the victory
• Grygo finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double
• Soderholm posted 24 points off the bench
• Gorney collected 14 points with Bogus contributing 12 along with eight assists, five blocks and six steals
