Women's Hoops Upends Puget Sound in Washington


TACOMA, WA - The Benedictine University women's basketball team won a seventh straight game by upending nationally recognized Puget Sound in overtime in the opener of a trip to Washington.

• Puget Sound led for most of the game but could not put Benedictine away
• Alena Moro scored the first points of the game, but a 9-1 run late in the first quarter put Benedictine behind by double digits at 21-11
• Four straight points brought Benedictine within 21-15 after the first quarter
• Puget Sound scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take a 29-15 edge
• D'Asia Williams drilled a three and Bennita Drain hit a layup to draw Benedictine within 38-29 at the half
• Puget Sound stretched the lead to 15 in the third quarter but a Jenna Endres three-pointer brought Benedictine within 60-51 at the end of the third
• Williams netted the first five points of the fourth quarter as Benedictine used an 8-0 run to battle within 60-56
• Endres brought Benedictine all the way back, scoring five straight to give Benedictine the lead with 2:23 left at 67-65
• Venita Parsons dropped home a layup with 27 seconds left to give Benedictine the edge, but Puget Sound tied the game to force overtime
• Benedictine scored six straight in overtime after the opening possession to take the lead and did not trail following a Georgia Alexakos bucket, hitting seven free throws to grab the victory
• Puget Sound was ranked all season but fell out of the poll for the first time this week
• Benedictine has not lost since the season opener

• Benedictine shot 55 percent in the second half and finished the contest at 43.9 percent
• Parsons led all scorers with 22 points
• Endres tallied 18 off the bench, making four three-pointers
• Williams notched 14 points with Moro grabbing 12 rebounds
