Men's Volleyball Falls at Home

The Benedictine University men's volleyball team dropped another five-set match on Thursday night, falling to Endicott College. Earlier in the day, the Eagles swept Davenport in an exhibition match.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine took a commanding lead on a 6-0 run from John Mathews that put the Eagles up 11-6 in the first set
• Back-to-back blocks from Kyle VanStedum and Elijah Medlock gave BenU the 25-13 win
• In the second set, the Eagles trailed until an Erik Kerber and Jeff Spagnolo block tied it at 17
• Davenport kept it close but a Sterling Glover kill secured the 25-23 victory
• Benedictine led the entire third set, including an 8-0 run with four aces from Markus Riemer

THE DETAILS
• Malak and Kacper Mazurek each tallied five kills in the first set
• The Eagles took an early lead and collected 13 kills and just two errors in the 25-22 win
• Endicott's defense came alive in set two, tallying five team blocks and forcing the Eagles to hit -.136
• The Gulls went on a 4-0 run and BenU couldn't recover, falling 25-14
• In the third set, EC took a 14-11 lead but the Eagles quickly tied it up at 15
• The two teams battled back and forth but Endicott's 14 kills and .321 hitting percentage was too much for BenU as they went on to win 25-23
• Benedictine trailed early in the fourth set but went on a 6-0 run at the hands of Joe Lock to take the lead
• A Malak solo block sparked the Benedictine offense and forced a fifth set with a 25-17 victory
• It was all Endicott in the fifth set, tallying nine kills and only allowing BenU to score on three kills
• The Eagles trailed by as many as seven in the 15-8 defeat

Benedictine men's volleyball, now 7-11 overall, are back in action next weekend when they host Olivet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24 followed by a 5:00 p.m. contest against Wittenberg on Saturday, March 25.
