Baseball Claims Third Straight

AUBURNDALE, FL - Behind another strong pitching performance, the Benedictine University baseball team secured a third consecutive win, downing Greenville College in the second game of a spring break venture to Florida.

THE DETAILS
•
James Wright carried over the momentum from Thursday, striking out the final two batters in a perfect top of the first
• Benedictine wasted little time in giving Wright the advantage, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning
• Nick Severino and Brandon Gipson were hit by a pitch to start the frame
• Chayancze Stirbis put Benedictine ahead with a double
• With the bases loaded after a walk to Dom DeMicco and a single from Andrew Hotze, Tanner Kiser lifted a sacrifice fly to make the lead 2-0
• Wright continued to cruise, allowing just two baserunners through the first four
• Erik Callaghan tripled with one away in the bottom of the fourth before scoring on a single from D.J. Dillon
• The final run scored unearned in the bottom of the seventh
• Greenville got on the board against the bullpen in the eighth, but Marty Maves shut the door for the save
• Benedictine owns a 2-0 record on the trip so far

STAT LEADERS
•
Wright worked six blank innings, allowing just two hits with no walks and six strikeouts
• Kamren Ackerman worked 1.1 innings with Maves finishing off the game with 1.2 innings
• The pitching staff limited Greenville (7-7) to just four total hits
• Benedictine finished with 10 hits, four of which went for extra bases
• Three players tallied two hits each (Gipson, Stirbis and Jimmy McLaughlin)
