Softball Splits Opening Day

The Benedictine University softball team opened up the 2017 season with a 9-2 win over Ohio Wesleyan University. The Eagles would go on to fall in the nightcap 11-2 against Buena Vista University.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine began the scoring in the second inning, tallying five runs
• With bases loaded and zero outs, Kassee Johnson singled to left field to score two runs
• A Shannon Fritsche double tallied two more runs and Courtney Grasz drove in the final run of the inning
• Johnson gave BenU  a 7-0 lead in the fourth with a solo homerun to center field
• OWU got on the board with a two-out two-run double
• Two more runs in the sixth would secure the BenU win

• Buena Vista threatened in the first inning but Emily Chitwood and the Eagles defense played out of the inning
• Buena Vista scored five runs on four hits and one BenU error in the second
• Buena Vista took an 8-0 lead after the third inning
• Jenna Boyajian and Haberkorn drove in runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to six
• Buena Vista tallied three runs in the bottom of the frame for the 11-2 win
