Eagles Defeat UW-Oshkosh, Fall to Chicago

The Benedictine University softball team opened up day two in Florida with a win over University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh but fell in the nightcap to University of Chicago.

THE DETAILS
• Oshkosh threatened in the second inning after tallying three straight hits to load the bases
• Holly Haberkorn retired the next two batters to end the inning and keep the game scoreless
• In the bottom of the frame, Haberkorn led off with a hit up the middle and Angie Malsack followed with a single
• Alexandra Laphen loaded the bases with a walk and Brittany Clark drove in the first run of the game
• Kassee Johnson followed with a two-run double and Kaitlyn Velazquez put BenU up 4-0 on a sac fly
• In the third inning Oshkosh scored two runs off of three hits and one BenU error
• Benedictine secured their victory in the top of the seventh with two runners on Haberkorn forced a pop up to end the game

THE DETAILS
• Chicago led off the first inning with five hits, scoring four runs
• The Maroons scored two more runs in the second
• Shannon Fritsche put the Eagles on the board in the third inning with a solo homerun to center field, her first of the season
• Jenna Boyajian also tallied an RBI in the inning
• Trailing 8-2, Benedictine tallied one more run in the seventh but it wasn't enough as Chicago would go on to win 8-3

The Eagles, now 2-2 overall, are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Linfield College at 1:00 pm CST followed by a 3:30 pm CST game against Carthage College.
