WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team rallied from a three-run deficit but came up short in a non-conference game against Eastern Connecticut State as part of the spring break trip in Florida.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine jumped ahead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning
• Andrew Hotze led off the frame with a triple down the line in right and scored promptly on a single from Nicholas Quick
• Jack Feeley and Jimmy McLaughlin tallied back-to-back one out walks to load the bases
• With two away, Brandon Gipson coaxed the third walk of the inning to force home a run
• Eastern Connecticut quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, chasing Benedictine starter Ivan Guzman after scoring five times
• Both teams scored in the third as a triple from Erik Callaghan to start the inning again set the tone
• Tanner Kiser pulled Benedictine within 5-3 by virtue of an RBI single
• Down 6-3, Benedictine scored three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game
• Nick Severino used one swing to tie the game, blasting a two out three-run homer
• Eastern Connecticut tallied a run in the bottom of the inning to jump ahead and tacked on two in the sixth and one in the eighth to account for the final
• Eastern Connecticut was in the NCAA Regionals last year and is a perennially strong program from the East that is receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25, the second of three programs currently receiving attention
• Benedictine is 2-2 thus far on the trip
