Softball Sweeps Elmhurst

The Benedictine University softball team combined for 23 hits in a sweep of non-conference opponent Elmhurst College on Tuesday afternoon.
 
THE FINAL – GAME ONE

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first on a Courtney Grasz three-run homer to left field, her first of the season
• Elmhurst tallied a run in the bottom of the frame after tallying two hits
• After a scoreless second, both teams tallied runs in the third
• Benedictine took a 6-3 lead in the fifth inning after Holly Haberkorn and Jenna Boyajian singles led to runs after an Emily Moore single to center field
• In the sixth inning, Shannon Fritsche led off with a walk, advanced on a wild pitch, stole a base and then scored on a wild pitch to tally one of three runs in the inning
• The Eagles sealed their victory in the seventh after Grasz doubled to score two more runs
• Benedictine had 13 hits in the victory, their highest so far this season

THE DETAILS
• Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first
• The Eagles got on the board in the second inning after Breanna Sobotka led off with an RBI single and Kassee Johnson drove in two runs
• Benedictine took a 5-1 lead in the third with RBI's from Abbey Plutz and Moore
• Benedictine was up 8-1 before Elmhurst cut their deficit to just three when they tallied four runs off of four hits and one BenU error in the sixth inning
• In the bottom of the frame, Grasz doubled to score Fritsche and Angie Malsack
• A Boyajian sac fly ended the scoring for both teams as the Eagle would win 11-5
• Emily Chitwood picked up her first win of the season on the mound
