Baseball Routs Webster for First Win

SAUGET, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team banged out 14 hits in earning the first victory of the season at Webster University.

THE DETAILS
•
After a scoreless first two innings, Benedictine broke open the game with five runs in the third inning
• Jimmy McLaughlin opened the frame with a double and came around to score when Nick Severino followed with a double
• Chayancze Stirbis doubled home Severino, stole third, and crossed the plate on a fielder's choice from Tanner Kiser
• Erik Callaghan capped the outburst with a two-run double to score Andrew Hotze and Kiser
• An unearned run scored in the fourth, stretching the advantage to 6-0
• D.J. Dillon tallied an RBI single in the fifth while McLaughlin drove home a run with a groundout
• Webster scored three times in the fifth but Benedictine reversed the momentum in the seventh with six runs on just three hits
• All six runs scored with two outs
• Hotze scored a run and drove in a pair during the frame
• Stirbis also picked up a two-run double in the inning
• The win marked the 200th for head coach Adam Smith

STAT LEADERS
•
Frank Greco, the 2016 NACC Freshman of the Year, made his first start of the year and earned the win
• Greco worked six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts
• Ryan Renken finished the game by working a scoreless inning in his collegiate debut
• Four players finished with multiple hits led by four from Hotze, who doubled twice
• Stirbis notched three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove home three
• McLaughlin and Brandon Gipson each logged two hits

UP NEXT
Benedictine (1-2) will return to action in Florida on March 16 against Ripon as part of the spring break trip
