Softball Splits NACC Opener

The Benedictine University softball team split their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opening games against Concordia University-Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE FINAL – GAME ONE
Benedictine 6, Concordia-Chicago 1
 
THE DETAILS
• Benedictine took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after walks from Jenna Boyajian and Kassee Johnson followed by a Breanna Sobotka hit
• Four more runs poured in for the Eagles in the fourth
• Despite two CUC errors, BenU collected four hits in the inning to take a 6-0 lead
• Concordia-Chicago tallied a run in the sixth off a double
• Holly Haberkorn picked up her eighth win of the season
 
STAT LEADERS
Johnson: 1-3, 1 run, 2 RBI
Courtney Grasz: 2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI
Haberkorn (8-2): 7.0 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 strikeout
 
THE FINAL – GAME TWO
Benedictine 6, Concordia-Chicago 8
 
THE DETAILS
• The Cougars got on the board in the top of the first with four hits for three runs
• The Eagles tallied a run in the bottom of the frame when Johnson scored on a CUC error
• Concordia rallied for two runs off of two hits in the second
• After two and a half scoreless innings the Eagles tied the game in the fifth with hits from Emily Moore, Grasz and Haberkorn
• The CUC offense was too much as they regained the lead the very next inning with two runs off of two hits
• After another run in the seventh for CUC, the Eagles almost tied the game, scoring a run off a Haberkorn single but it wasn't enough as they would fall 6-8

Benedictine softball, now 10-6 overall and 1-1 in NACC action, travel to Milwaukee, WI tomorrow to take on the Inferno of Alverno College with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader
